Etymology
[Cf. grǽfe syrcan, Beo. Th. 673; B. 334; and gullon gúþ searo, Andr. Kmbl. 253; An. 127. Grein takes the word as an adjective = grey-coated, the grey-coated one, i. e. the wolf. In support of this cf. scírham, and the passages given under 'grǽg,' in which that adjective is applied to the wolf.]
